Dance on Saturday Sept. 21!!

First Dance of the Semester!

Hello contra dancers!  We're starting up the Wesleyan Contra Dance again, for the new academic year.

Our first contra dance of the year will be this SATURDAY September 21st. 

Yes, a Saturday dance at Wes!!

The dance will still be held from 8-11pm in Beckham Hall on Wyllys Ave.

For this month's dance the band will be Mavish - made up of Adam Broome and Jaige Trudel from Crowfoot. The caller will be George Marshall.

It should be a great night of dancing!! Bring your friends or make new ones. All the dances will be taught. The dance is free as always, but donations are welcome to pay for sound equipment and other dance expenses.

Our schedule for this semester is Sat. September 21, Friday October 25, and Friday December 6. There is no November dance.

Fall 2013 Contra Dances at Wesleyan

Welcome back to campus!!  We're looking forward to seeing you all on the dance floor this semester!  We have three dances scheduled this fall:

September 21
Band: Mavish (Adam Broome and Jaige Trudel from the band Crowfoot)
Caller: George Marshall (from Wild Asparagus and Swallowtail)
(Yes, this is a SATURDAY.  That's not our normal day for a dance, but we wanted to get this fabulous band here, and this was the one date that fit into their schedule.)

October 25
(Back to our normal Friday)
We don't have a band or caller scheduled yet, but don't worry, we'll find excellent folks soon.

December 6
(Also a Friday, and the last day of classes)
Band: Velocipede (a hot new band out of New Hampshire, that has been getting lots of great press!)
Caller: Luke Donforth (formerly of Hartford, now living in Burlington VT.  He's a Wesleyan favorite!)

(And for any undergraduates out there who are especially enthusiastic about our contra dances -- we're always looking for more folks to be a part of the committee that puts on these dances.  Talk to Veronica Lumbantoruan or Ali Rosenberg if you'd like to get involved.)

Last Dance of the Semester May 8!

Our last dance of the semester will be on Wednesday May 8, 8-11pm in Beckham Hall on Wyllys Ave.

The caller will be Daniel Friedman, and the band is Perpetual e-Motion!!

It is sure to be a fantastic dance!!

Bring yourselves and bring your friends! The dance is free, but donations are welcome and will be greatly appreciated to help us bring in this fabulous band.

Contra Dance Feb. 22nd

The next contra dance of the semester is tomorrow night!  Friday February 22nd

8-11pm
In Beckham Hall - Next to the Usdan campus center on Wyllys Ave.

Caller: Sarah Van Norstrand -- Sarah, who often calls with the Great Bear Trio, was last seen on stage at the Dance Flurry in Saratoga Springs, NY, just this past weekend!  Her dances and calling are fabulous!

Band: Last Exit -- This band is centered around the Philly/NJ/NYC area, with Christopher Jacoby (mandolin, guitar, accordion), Doug Healy (guitar, bass, djembe), and Ross Harriss (sax, guitar) playing rockin' good music for you to dance to.

The dance is free, but donations are greatly appreciated, and will be put towards making these dances possible.

Beginners are always welcome!  They'll be a beginner's session at 7:30pm.  But even if you can't make it that early, come any time!

First Contra Dance of the Semester!

The first contra dance of the semester is TONIGHT!  Friday February 1st.

8-11pm
In Beckham Hall - Next to the Usdan campus center on Wyllys Ave.

Caller: Luke Donforth
Band: Josh Van Vliet (guitar) and Rebecca McCallum (fiddle)

The second half of the dance is an Open Band, led by Josh and Rebecca.  That means, if you play a folk instrument, you can come join the band!  Sheet music will be provided.

The dance is free, but donations are greatly appreciated, and will be put towards making these dances possible.

Beginners are always welcome!

Last Contra Dance of the Semester!

The last contra dance of the semester will be this Friday, November 30.

8-11pm
In Beckham Hall - Next to the Usdan campus center on Wyllys Ave.

Band: Corey Walters (Flute and Mandolin)
Nora Smith (Fiddle)
Christopher Jacoby (Guitar)

The dance is free, but donations are greatly appreciated and will be put towards running sound for this dance and future dances.

Next Contra Dance - This Friday October 26th

Join us for our second contra dance of the year!

The dance will be this Friday October 26th.
8-11pm
Beckham Hall
(which is on the 2nd floor of Fayerweather Hall, on Wesleyan's campus, next to Usdan)

Our caller for the dance will be Steve Zakon-Anderson from Amherst, MA.
We will have music by the Free Raisins -- Audrey Knuth on fiddle, Jeff Kaufman on mandolin and trumpet, and Amy Englesberg on piano.

The dance is free, but we always appreciate donations.

Beginners are more than welcome!  We'll see you on Friday!

Our next and last dance of this semester will be November 30th.
